    Irene Alvarez is the founder of Irene Alvarez Consulting, a firm that advances economic development organizations through the power of effective communication. 

    Irene has honed her marketing and civic leadership expertise for 20 years in tourism, advertising and economic development. Before founding her company, she served as COO of the Columbus Partnership and its teams, One Columbus and Smart Columbus. She provided strategic and day-to-day leadership, including oversight of marketing, communications, DEI, and community engagement initiatives.  

    Before that, Irene was managing director of marketing and communications for the regional economic development group Columbus 2020, now known as One Columbus, where she led strategy and execution of branding, marketing and communications. Under Irene’s leadership, the organization received dozens of national and international marketing awards and helped set a new standard of excellence in economic development marketing. 

    She’s a StoryBrand Certified Guide, participated in the Brookings Global Cities Initiative, completed the Young American Leaders Program at Harvard Business School, and has a Bachelor of Science in Communications from Ohio University.
